Visit to Rosendael Castle

Tags: , , , , , , , ,

Last weekend (12 & 13 september 2009) it was “open monumentendag” in the Netherlands. On this day you can visit monumental buildings for free. Some of these building are normaly not open for public. It is really a great opportunity to visit some of the historic castles, farms or beautiful houses.

This yeas my wife, my two children (3 and 5 years old) and me choose to visit the caste of Rosendael. he caste is in the small town of Rozendaal near Arnhem / Velp. It is a castle that has its roots in dark ages (It is first mentioned in 1313). The castle has had many owners, among others dukes of Gelre.

Below a little video I shot at the castle Rosendael. It was not allowed to take pictures/video inside the castle so only footage of the beautiful park.

We took a guided tour through the beautifull rooms of the caste. Every room has a great view on the lake and garden of the caste. The rooms are filled with a great collection of furniture, silver and China. So you really can imagene how people lived here.

A funny piece of furniture was a chair made of deerhorn. Didn’t look very comfortable with all those horn sticking out. And that was exactly the point. This chair was offered to visiters they didn’t want to stay to long. Very cleffer!

If you have little children, like I do, it is realy great to visit the park of this castle. It has a lot of water elements. One of them are the “bedriegertje” (In Englisch something like “little swindlers”. When you don’t expect it, little fointains come out of the pavement.

Brandweer Defilé Dieren

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , ,

My ears are stilling ringing beacuse of all the sirens!

In the center of  Dieren, nearby Arnhem, there was a parade of the   fire brigade on saturday 12 september 2009. The parade was in honour of the voluntary fire brigade of Dieren that celebrated there 100 anniversary.

Below a little video I shot whith my Toschiba Camileo camera.

Firefighting trucks and equipment came to Dieren from all over the Netherlands.

A few of the historic fire trucks came from the brandweer museum borculo. The volunteers of this museum have done a great job restoring these cars. For exemple an Seagrave from 1917 and an Ahrens Fox from 1927. Below an Ahrens Fox in a photo of Elsie esq.

From Germany there was the Technische Hilfwerke (THW). This is a group of technicians who can assist in case the fire brigade. They can build bridges if there is a flood. They can provide electricity where needed whith aggregate’s. And they also have rescue dogs. More info on the Technische Hilfwerke on www.thw.bund.de
